Projects Funded by Our Water, Our Land
Stagville State Historic Site
In December 2007, TLC used
funds from Our Water, Our Land to acquire 92 acres that will be added to the
Stagville State Historic Site in Durham.
Treyburn developer D.R. Bryan
and his partners, who have donated more than 1,300 acres in the Treyburn
area over the past three years, made a bargain sale of three tracts making up the 92 acres. The land
will eventually be transferred to the North Carolina Division of Cultural
Resources, a new partner in TLC's efforts to protect open space.
In addition to their historical significance, the tracts protect high quality
streams at the headwaters of Falls Lake. TLC used $300,000 from the
Land Opportunity Fund to acquire the tracts and will be reimbursed through a
grant from the North Carolina Natural Heritage Trust Fund. TLC was
also awarded $55,000 from the City of Raleigh through the Upper Neuse Clean
Water Initiative.
