New Board Members Elected in April 2007
In a nearly unanimous vote, TLC members elected four board members to TLC's
Board of Directors in April 2007. Three of the Directors are currently serving
on the Board: Lanier Cansler, Rodney Gaddy and Larry Tombaugh. Bill Holman was
also elected to the board and will join the Directors in July. The Board is
charged with setting policy directions and budget priorities for the
organization. Board members are nominated by a nominating committee and elected
by the general membership at the annual meeting and by mail. TLC board members
serve three-year terms and cannot serve more than two consecutive terms.
* William "Skip" London of Chatham County was appointed to fill a vacant board seat in November 2007.
** Wade Barber of Orange County resigned from the board in January 2008.
Role of the Board of Directors
TLC is governed by a 21-member Board of Directors which sets policy directions and budget priorities for the organization. Board members are nominated by a nominating committee and elected by the general membership at the annual meeting. They serve three-year terms and cannot serve more than two
consecutive terms.
TLC's Board Officers include a president, vice president, treasurer and secretary. The Board Officers are selected from among the Board of Directors and elected by the general membership at the annual meeting. The President is the chief executive officer of the organization, presiding over Board meetings and representing TLC at various functions. The Vice President acts in place of the President as needed. The Treasurer controls the funds of the organization, ensures that the books are kept properly and prepares financial reports. The Secretary is responsible for recording the minutes of the Board meetings and Annual Meeting. Officers serve one-year terms.
