Internship Projects and Skills Developed

  • Event planning. TLC stages three major public events each year: Green Jamboree (concert event for members and the public), Land Trust Day (local business fundraising event), and Ride for the Land (bicycle tour event). The Communications Intern will assist with all aspects of event planning, including promotion, advertising, seeking sponsorship, registration, event materials, and coordination. Skills developed include Writing, Advertising writing, Marketing to target audiences, Print production, Event management.
  • Publications. TLC produces three frequent publications (Newsletter, E-News, and Website), an Annual Report, and other one-time publications (e.g., Preserve Trail Guides). The Communications Intern may assist with writing, editing, design, or photography for any of these publications as needed. Skills developed include Writing, Editing, Website design, Page layout, Photography.

Desired Skills

  • Excellent writing and editing skills. Candidates will be asked to submit three writing samples.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team setting and independently
  • Experience with Publisher (or other layout program), Frontpage(or other web editing program), and Adobe Photoshop
  • Experience with HTML codes and JavaScript

Academic Qualifications

Junior and senior undergraduates and graduate students of journalism and communications are encouraged to apply.

Hours per Week 10-20
Location TLC Office in Raleigh
Financial Assistance Unfunded; assistance may be provided to interns seeking to secure funding
