Possible Internship Objectives
- Add a temporal component to an existing conservation, based upon threat of use conversion
- Work directly with land protection staff to research and create resources, Web pages and maps to advance TLC’s Conservation Strategies Program
Possible Responsibilities
- Research topics such as farmland and forestland preservation and transfer of development rights
- Create general and TLC-specific conservation content for TLC’s Web site
- Work directly with land protection staff on diverse land acquisition and conservation projects
- Perform community outreach work in areas where TLC protects land or wants to protect land
- Conduct research and create maps and other deliverables that help land protection staff determine whether to incorporate a temporal element into our conservation plan (essentially, we need to know if we should be focusing on some priority areas before others due to varying degrees of development pressure)
Desired Skills
- Excellent written and oral presentation skills
- Proficiency in spatial analysis
- Proficiency with Arcview, ArcGIS or other relevant computer skills
- Organization and research skills
- Excellent communication skills
Academic Qualifications
Graduate students with one year of relevant study are encouraged to apply. Also, depending on the internship, an academic advisor willing to provide guidance for a novel project may be necessary.
