Beauty of Nature Brings Jessica Poland to TLC

by Glenn Simon
(from TLC News, August 2003)

Jessica Poland

An appreciation for the aesthetic beauty of nature, combined with life-changing travel experiences in both Costa Rica and the Italian Alps, led Jessica Poland to join TLC as our Office Manager in the July 2002.

Trained as a fine artist at Guilford College, Jessica developed business management, budgeting, and bookkeeping skills during her work as the lead artist, and then assistant to the president, of a decorative painting business in Cary. She was raised in the open farmland of Indiana until age 12, and has been a North Carolinian ever since. Looking back to her school days at Enloe High, she has fond memories of participating in the school’s fledgling Environmental Club.

Jessica has witnessed the urban sprawl and decline of open space in the Triangle first-hand. She is now a dedicated advocate for stronger land protection policies and causes including The Nature Conservancy, Habitat for Humanity, NC PIRG – and of course, TLC. Upon mastering her new office management responsibilities, she hopes to increase the participation of volunteers in various administrative projects. In her free time, she enjoys yoga, sketching, hiking, and cooking ethnic food.
