Marisa Bryant Brings Big Plans to Broaden Membership

by Margaret Royall, Volunteer Writer
(from TLC News, August 2006)

The lifeblood of any organization is its members, and TLC is no exception. To develop a strong membership base, an organization needs someone to help broaden and diversify it.

North Carolina native Marisa Bryant began as Membership Coordinator for TLC in June. Having grown up in North Carolina, Marisa is truly endeared to the state and says she feels incredibly lucky to have a job that allows her to help protect a place that she loves so much. In fact, Marisa brings with her a special perspective on North Carolina’s diversity since she has lived in no less than eight counties in the state, including four of the six counties served by TLC.

Marisa graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from Elon College. She went on to UNC Chapel Hill to earn her Master’s in Public Administration. Although she initially considered a career in politics—and even worked in the Office of Government Relations at UNC-CH and interned in Governor Hunt’s Office of Intergovernmental Relations—she decided on a different career path to help make the world a better place.

Fortunately for us, Marisa has now found a place at TLC where she can focus her efforts in an organization dedicated to preserving open spaces. As Membership Coordinator, Marisa will be planning and running membership programs, writing grant proposals and managing TLC’s relationship with Earth Share of North Carolina. Marisa says she truly believes that conservation must be part of the land-use equation for us to maintain (and enhance!) our quality of life.

In her free time, Marisa enjoys camping, going to local music shows, and volunteering for SAFE Haven for Cats in Raleigh. She is an avid TV watcher from December to March of every year—ACC basketball season, of course! Marisa lives in Raleigh with her husband of four years, Josh, and their two cats, Rerun and Kitten.
