Background
I have worked in development my entire career, beginning at Duke University, where I spent seven years in prospect research, ultimately serving as Director of Research and
Constituency Development. Duke provided an excellent training ground, particularly as my time there coincided with the university’s recently completed $2.4 billion campaign.
I didn’t dream of being a professional fundraiser when I was growing up, but I quickly grew to appreciate development’s impact on causes about which I care deeply
and in 2001, was fortunate to have an opportunity to follow my personal passion and work as Associate Director of Philanthropy for The Nature Conservancy’s North Carolina
Chapter. At The Nature Conservancy, where I worked for nearly three years, I learned a great deal about North Carolina’s plants, animals and natural communities, and found
a deeper appreciation of the state and its wild places.
Coming to Triangle Land Conservancy affords an opportunity to help protect those places closest to home, where I love to hike and jog, where I find solace and renewal.
I was born and raised in Texas and have been in the Carolinas since college when a desire to see a different part of the country brought me to the southeast. I received
a BA in English from Clemson University in 1992 and came to North Carolina in 1993. I currently live in Durham, where I have resided for 11 years, with my husband and
our two daughters.
My favorite TLC property is
Little River Regional Park because...
...it feels wild and remote, yet it's only a few minutes from Durham. Because it has hiking trails (for me), bike trails (for my husband), and a playground (for my children).
Because it illustrates the power of partnerships. Eno River Association, Durham and Orange counties and TLC joined with impassioned individuals to protect this incredible
piece of land. Because we see wildlife almost everytime we go. Because it reminds me that we're never far from nature, and because I feel part of something beyond, something
better, when I walk by the river.
