Liz Pullman

Since TLC was founded, volunteer and member Liz Pullman has become an invaluable member of the TLC team. As a volunteer, she has served as an enthusiastic hike leader, biological inventory specialist, Tilley’s Branch site steward, Land Committee member and TLC’s representative to the committee that developed the management plan for Little River Regional Park. Along with her late husband, Jim, Liz produced an extraordinary inventory that played a key role in TLC's protection of Johnston Mill Nature Preserve.

Originally from eastern Tennessee, Liz has lived in Durham for 46 years, where she has been a tireless advocate for open space and trails. Although she received some scientific training while pursuing degrees in home economics and education at the University of Tennessee, this knowledgeable botanist and zoologist is largely self-taught. Much of her professional career has been spent at NCSU, first in the Zoology Department, then in Poultry Science. An avid birder, Liz has assisted various conservation agencies in banding and tracking birds for almost forty years in an effort to improve our understanding of the behavior and population trends of various species.

Liz first heard about TLC when she read a newspaper article about Temple Flat Rock. A number of her friends in the community were already involved with TLC and continue to be involved today. She says she was attracted to TLC because she felt that the organization was doing something substantial for the community. Liz will soon be moving to Austin, Texas, to be closer to family. While we are sad to see such a dedicated advocate for open space leave our community, we wish Liz the best and know that Durham’s loss is Austin’s gain.
