Adam Meyer

Not every 17 year-old can boast that they’ve raised
hundreds of dollars for environmental nonprofits, served on the board of the
Environmental Education Fund, and started an organization of his own (to
save land around Richland Creek in Wake County). But Raleigh Charter High
School student Adam Meyer is not your typical rising high school senior! Adam
became concerned with environmental issues at a young age and
began supporting environmental organizations with money from his allowance.
Over the past 4 years, he has made and sold calendars and note cards and
donated the proceeds to nonprofit organizations, including TLC. Adam won
Third Place in Action for Nature's International Young Eco-Hero
Award 2005 for his calendar project.
Adam recently added to his extensive list of honors by
receiving a scholarship from the Paul Horner Foundation.
This program awards rising high school
juniors and seniors with a scholarship to pursue a unique summer experience.
Adam is using his scholarship to conduct research on urban parkland in
Seattle and hopefully Vancouver as well. He will be interviewing park users,
city leaders, nonprofits and businesses, and plans to create a photo essay
comparing parks in these other cities with Raleigh parks.
Adam lives in Raleigh with his parents,
Sally and Andrew, and sister Joanna.
