Member Spotlight - August 2007

Sarah and Chris Capel

Our August members of the month, Sarah and Chris Capel, are committed to supporting environmental groups that are working to protect the special places they love. Chris and Sarah are two of our many supporters who became TLC members on Land Trust Day by becoming members at a Great Outdoor Provision Company store in 2002. The Capels are also members of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and the Northern Neck Land Conservancy, conservation organizations that are working to protect areas in Virginia where the Capels vacation and visit family.

Originally from Thomasville, North Carolina, and Arlington, Virginia, respectively, Chris and Sarah have lived in the Triangle since 1990. They met while practicing law at Case and White in New York. The Capels enjoy many outdoor activities such as kayaking, sailing, biking and hiking, and are interested in protecting places where they can escape heavily developed areas and enjoy the quiet of pristine natural areas – places that they feel are becoming increasingly uncommon.

Chris is currently a partner at Smith Anderson in Raleigh and Sarah is serving as Parent Association President at St. Mary’s School. They are active members of Edenton Street Methodist Church and Chris serves as Director of the Board of Directors of Artspace, Inc., a nonprofit visual arts center. Sarah and Chris live in Raleigh with their three children: daughters, Elizabeth and Anna, and son, Blair.
