| Description |
The Rocks is the easternmost occurrence of flat, ground-level granite outcroppings in the Piedmont. Dry for most of the year, the granite depressions are covered with brilliant magenta sedum blooms in the spring. Red cedars, winged elms, yucca and prickly pears grow along a beautiful stream. One of 26 such rocks in eastern Wake and neighboring counties. TLC sold the land to Wake County for its Little River Reservoir in 2004. Wake County maintains the land as protected open space, with the granite outcroppings lying outside the inundation zone of the reservoir.
