1. Ride for the Land 2008
Nearly 200 cyclists rolled out
July 19 for Ride for the Land 2008: The Little River Roll. The tour brought
attention to TLC's Little River Priority Area and raised awareness of our
efforts to preserve this critical piece of our natural heritage. While we at TLC
have packed away the water jugs and signage until next year, you can
reminisce
about this year's ride by reviewing our photos
online.
2. Burrito Bash
TLC is teaming up
with Haw River Assembly and
the General
Store Cafe of Pittsboro for a Burrito
Bash! Join us on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at the General Store Cafe (39
West St, Pittsboro) for music, dancing, a silent auction, and of course,
burritos! If you are
interested in volunteering at the event or would like to donate an item to
the silent auction, please contact Marisa Bryant at
mbryant@tlc-nc.org
or 919-833-3662 ext. 111. For tickets and to view the growing list of
auction items, click

3. Haw River Paddle Day - August 30
Join us for
an all-day paddling extravaganza on the Haw River at the Lower Haw State Natural
Area upstream of the Bynum Dam. We're offering a different kind of paddle trip
on August 30 -- six different two-hour trips allowing different ways to see the
Haw River. Some of the trips will be themed guided trips: birding, natural
history, and geocaching. Others will be "freestyle" do-it-yourself
explorations.
Details and
registration.

Bruce and Annie Woodard
Bruce Woodard remembers first visiting Flower
Hill with his family in 1937. Almost fifty years later, Bruce and his wife Annie
were instrumental in helping TLC protect this beautiful property.
“One day I drove past Flower Hill and there
was a ‘for sale’ sign!” says Bruce. He called TLC and worked with fellow
Johnston County residents to raise funds for Flower Hill Nature Preserve, one of
five TLC properties open to the public.

5. Our Water, Our Land
River Society Challenge
In May, anonymous donors issued the following
challenge to their fellow River Society members:
“Make a gift or pledge* to TLC’s Our Water, Our Land campaign this year
between May 1 and December 31 and we will match you dollar for dollar up to
$200,000.”
River Society members are those who contribute $1,000
or more to TLC to support annual operations. Our Water, Our
Land is TLC's campaign to grow our Land Opportunity Fund and to steward our
conservation lands. Thanks to many generous donors, TLC has raised $3.8 million
toward the $5.5 million goal.
For more information,
go to the Our Water, Our Land
website or contact Tracy Joseph, director
of development.
(* a pledge to the campaign can be paid over 3 to 5
years)
6.
Meet our Interns
Like many non-profit
organizations, TLC enlists the help of a team of interns who provide
valuable skills and knowledge to help us achieve our goals. From grant
writing to clearing trails, our interns have had a busy summer dedicated to
saving the places you
love. Take a moment to meet our interns
online.
7. Message of the Month
