New Generation Celebrates White Pines' 20th Year
On March 25, 2006, more than 60 TLC members and friends helped us celebrate
the twentieth year of the White Pines Preserve and three major new sucesses
of the past two years: the new and improved trails,
the white pine forestry project, and the
addition of the 17-acre Newton tract.
TLC
executive director Kevin Brice, left, and three representatives of the
next generation of Triangle-area conservationists cut the ribbon to open
the new and improved trails at white Pines Preserve.
Naturalist
Jesse Perry (at right, with arm raised) led a nature walk after the Celebration.
Most of the 60-plus celebrators took part in one of the five educational
activities available before or after the celebration.
TLC
board member Celeste Burns (at left, holding child) and family enjoyed
the celebration in front of the new kiosk display at White Pines.
Funding for the display was provided by a grant from Progress Energy.
The grant will fund kiosk displays at TLC's other open preserves
Flower Hill, McIver Landing and Swift Creek Bluffs as well as trail
guides.
