Justice! TLC Saves 760 Acres on Deep River
On July 14, TLC completed the largest land deal in its 20 year history,
purchasing a 760-acre property on the Deep River near Moncure for roughly
$3 million dollars.

steps down; Martin steps up
Kate Dixon has stepped down after 11 years with TLC, nine as executive
director. D. G. Martin has been hired as interim executive director while
the TLC Board conducts a nationwide search for Kate's successor.

to Lengthen 15-501 Bridge over New Hope Creek
Heeding a united chorus of local voices, including TLC, the N.C. Department
of Transportation agreed on June 11 to lengthen and raise a new bridge
that will span New Hope Creek between Chapel Hill and Durham.

Bridging our nature better: The right span for New Hope Creek

DURHAM -- In replacing the U.S.15-501 bridge over New Hope Creek in Durham,
the state Department of Transportation has a great chance to decrease
traffic congestion while helping recreation and wildlife in Chapel Hill
and Durham. Instead, the DOT is on the brink of building a bridge that
meets highway objectives but destroys more than 10 years of community
effort to create a greenway along New Hope Creek from Duke Forest to Jordan

Weighs In On New Hope Bridge Replacement
TLC joins local governments and conservation groups in calling for the
NC Department of Transportation to improve plans for a new 15-501 bridge
over New Hope Creek. A public hearing set for February 26 was postponed
due to threats of an ice storm. A new hearing date has yet to be set,
but it will be posted here as soon as it is.

The N.C. Wildlife Federation named TLC its Conservation Organization of
the Year for 2002. The honor is part of NCWF's Governor's Conservation
Achievement Awards program to highlight individuals and organizations
